Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which keyboards are supported?

As of now there are the KronosRemote and NautilusRemote which feature the Korg Kronos and Korg Nautilus. Within each product lines all models are supported.

  • Does the Remote App mirror the instrument's screen 1:1?

No, the entire user interface has been reprogrammed based on the instrument’s interface with multiple modifications to adapt to the iPad-way of working. Also it provides a subset of the existing screens only which is due to technical limitations as well as the required effort.

  • Are both iPad and instrument screen always show the same content?

Yes and no: settings and values are always kept consistent between iPad and instrument. Also the modes like Combi, Program… are kept identical with the exception that you can stay in setlist mode on the iPad and have the instrument enter the actual mode of the selected slot, which is a great live-feature. Within each mode the selected editing page is independent which allows you to stay on a certain page on the iPad and perform editing on a different page in parallel.

  • Do I need additional accessories to connect with an USB cable?

For a USB MIDI connection any newer iPad with USB-C connector only needs a UCB-C to USB-B cable to connect with your instrument.

iPads with lightning connector require and additional USB-adapter with which you can then use a USB-A to USB-B cable (this was called the camera connection kit on the 30pin-connector iPads).

Any other iPad-compatible MIDI interface should also work as long as it does not modify or filter SysEx data.

  • How can I connect via Bluetooth?

Bluetooth MIDI connections are supported by any iPad with BT LE support (which is essentially any model since iPad 3) however neither Kronos nor Nautilus have built-in BT so you need a BT-MIDI dongle for this.

Any BT LE compatible dongle should work as long as it’s recognized by the iPad, however large SysEx dumps are problematic for most dongles. This means you can still control your instrument wireless but you should synchronize your data before using a USB connection.

The WIDI dongles from CME have been found to be solid and reliable and also support most data transfers. You find a link to them at the end of this website’s main page.

  • My instrument does not react / I have connection issues...

First thing to check is wether SysEx is enabled on your instrument, otherwise communication is not possible. Make sure that the ‘Exclusive’ checkbox is ticked at Global -> MIDI on your instrument.

For NautilusRemote users also make sure that the MIDI global channel is set to 1.

If you still have issues you might want to check the MIDI connection to your iPad by using any other app that provides MIDI functionalities such as showing connected devices or sending out key on/off or program change data. If your iPad cannot see your instrument, the RemoteApp won’t either.

  • Why is disk mode not supported?

Because the SysEx communication protocol form Korg does not include those functionalities.

Any action that can be performed in disk mode goes beyond what is usually transmitted in SysEx messages. Those are used to exchange playing-related information, controller data, object dumps, parameter changes… providing data of the internal HD content or being able to access the drives unfortunately goes way beyond this scope.
